This Privacy Policy explains how Coupld ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal data when you use the Coupld mobile application ("App"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Please read this policy carefully. By creating an account and using the App, you confirm that you have read and understood it.

1. Who We Are

Human Labs is a trading name of Chaos & Order Ltd, and is the data controller for personal data collected through the App. If you have any questions about how we use your data, contact us at hello@humanlabs.co.uk.

2. What Data We Collect

2.1 Data you provide directly

First name and last name
Email address (used to create and identify your account)
Date of birth
Mobile phone number (UK numbers only in this version of the App)
Marketing consent preferences (email and SMS, managed separately)
Profile photograph, where you choose to upload one

2.2 Data generated through your use of the App

Your responses to the Love Language quiz (approximately 20 questions)
Your responses to the Intimacy quiz (approximately 30 questions)
Your responses to relationship challenges set through the App
Your couple-linking activity (the code used to connect with your partner)
Matching scores, gap graph data, and relationship archetype, computed from your quiz responses
Points, streaks, and challenge completion records
Account activity timestamps

2.3 Data we collect automatically

Basic device and session data for crash reporting and app stability (device type, OS version, anonymous session identifiers)

We do not use third-party advertising networks. We do not sell your data. We do not use tracking cookies (the App is not a website).

3. How We Use Your Data

3.1 To provide the App and its core features

Legal basis: Performance of a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).

Creating and managing your account
Linking you with your partner
Computing and displaying matching scores, gap graphs, archetypes, challenges, and gamification data
Sending transactional messages (e.g. account verification, partner-linking notifications)

3.2 Marketing communications

Legal basis: Consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).

You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings > Notifications, or by contacting us at hello@humanlabs.co.uk. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

3.3 Legal obligations

Legal basis: Compliance with a legal obligation (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c)).

Diagnosing technical errors and improving App stability

4. Sensitive Data

Quiz and challenge responses may touch on intimate and emotional topics, including physical and emotional intimacy. We treat this data with particular care. We do not use it for advertising, profiling for third parties, or any purpose beyond providing your in-app results and personalised challenges.

We do not ask for or infer sexual orientation, health conditions, or other special category data.

5. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We share data only as follows:

Supabase Inc. — our database and authentication provider, hosted on AWS infrastructure in the EU. Data is processed under a Data Processing Agreement.
Your partner — when you link accounts, your first name, matching score, gap graph dimensions, and archetype are visible to your linked partner. Your individual quiz and challenge answers are never shared; only your aggregated scores are visible.
Legal authorities — where required by law or court order.

6. International Transfers

Our infrastructure provider (Supabase) stores data within the EU/EEA. Where any transfer outside the UK/EEA occurs, it is covered by appropriate safeguards (standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions recognised under UK law).

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

Account data: retained for as long as your account is active, plus 30 days after deletion to allow for error correction.
Quiz and challenge responses and computed scores: retained for the life of your account. Historical snapshots are kept to show progress over time.
Marketing consent records: retained for 6 years after the consent event, for legal compliance.
Crash and diagnostic data: retained for 90 days.

When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise all personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights:

Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data. You can also trigger this directly in the App via Settings > Delete Account.
Right to restrict processing — ask us to pause processing your data in certain circumstances.
Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Right to withdraw consent — for marketing communications, at any time via Settings.
Right to lodge a complaint — with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have mishandled your data.

9. Children

The App is not directed at, and should not be used by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at coupld.support@humanlabs.co.uk and we will delete it promptly.

10. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), row-level security on our database, and access controls. No system is completely secure. If you become aware of a security issue, please report it to coupld.support@humanlabs.co.uk.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you within the App before the changes take effect. The current version is always available at coupld.app/privacy.

Continued use of the App after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
